cutting cricut cartridge images with SCAL

Hi everyone, this is my first how to video.  First off I have to say that I lost my flip video, so I've done this video with my regular camera.  Not so great but I hope everyone can follow along.  Sometimes I need an image that is not on a cartridge I own, well there is a way to cut that image with SCAL, hope you enjoy.

I have removed the instrustions due to the "uproar" this is causing.  Please however see the last comment I posted.  This is not something I do all of the time, I only use it for a cart that I don't want to spend $119.00 for or for cart that is not available to Canadians.  I want 6 of the Lite Carts, but only 4 carts are available at any of the Walmarts here, and they are not the ones I want.  I want the Martha Stewart ones as well, but guess what, we can't buy those in Canada either.  With this method I am able to have what Provocraft won't provide to us Canadians.

  1. Wow! Jane this is awesome. I never knew. HMMM maybe I should invest in SCAL 2 or MTC now instead of a bunch more cartridges. Looks like it is worth it!

  2. Jane, do you originally get your image from design studio? Thanks for the video.

  3. Yes Lynn, if you don't have design studio you can download the trial version and us that.

  4. But does it work on the Imagine?

  5. As the imagine doesn't work with DS, I doubt it works with SCAL. Us Canadians haven't had the imagine offered to us yet, so I'm not sure.

  6. isn't this stealing?

  7. Absolutely. It is stealing from the company, but also from all purchasers of cartridges because our costs go up to cover what ProvoCraft has to spend in legal costs to protect their interests.

  8. Are you kidding me??? It really pisses me off that I spend a fortune to purchase cartridges legally and you just go ahead and steal them.

  9. This is just outright stealing. And you should not encourage it. It makes the price of cartridges go up for the rest of us.

  10. I still own 60+ cartridges, I only use it if there is a cartridge and I only want one image from it. The price of a cartridge in Canada is $119.00 for a full cartridge. Most of the "lites" aren't available to us. My walmart only has 4, what are we suppose to do, walmart usa won't even send the carts to Canada.

  11. You gals should not get your panties in a wad regarding this issue. Without seeing the video I know what it was about.

Another way to harvest any graphic from your computer and online and any software program installed on your computer that has graphics is to us Microsoft's Sniping Tool which is on every MS system in the accessories. You can snag any photo/graphics and such in just about any format and save it as a jpeg file and convert it into any svg file if you have it saved in jpeg.

And since many have DS on their system they can go to the library and get any or all the graphics there and save them in jpeg format.

With the high cost of carts and only a 90 day warranty on it if cart gets damaged folks have to have a way to save there favorite ones on there computer to keep using it if that happens.

I was saving my favorite images using the MS sniping tool long before the "remain nameless" software program found a way to harvest them anyway via DS.

IMHO since the warranty is only for 90 days you bet I will save my favorite images in another format to use if need be years down the road.

My only question is why is PC not going after Microsoft for there sniping program let alone these small 3rd party software out there.

Simply because they use intimidation and Angel policy that would not stand in a copyrighted court of law and most don't know this.

    Enough said!

  12. Well then, I guess since I want a mini van for only one long distance trip and I don't want to spend the $$$ for it, I should just go steal it!

Try to justify it however you want. . .it's still copyright infringement. Either you are an ethical, law abiding person, or you aren't. I know which one I am!

  13. No, I would rent it a van. In this case the cartridge I want aren't available in Canada. They are not even available for us at a US store to buy online. If I could buy it I would.

  17. You really don't see anything wrong with stealing property that does not belong to you or with adding to a situation where legitimate users have to pay through the noses for their products? Why the hell do you think the price of cartridges is $90 per cart????? This attitude pisses me off no end and I report every single one of you to ProvoCraft. I hope your e-mail addresses and messages are enough for them to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law -- and yes, there IS a law against this!!!!

  18. In Canada carts are $119.00 and I own over 50 of them, not bad since I've had my cricut about 20 months. While you talk about a rip off what about the cricut circle for Canadians, we pay the same as the Americans, we don't get half the benefits. We were told our price would be adjusted, but guess what, it hasn't been adjusted.
We were told we would be able to purchase the Imagine, in early October, but know not yet. I am dying to buy this machine ... if the offer ever comes.
I would love to buy about 8 of the lite carts, but can't find them in Canada.
I would love to buy the Martha Stewart Carts, but guess what not in Canada.
I would even like the small Cake machine, but again it's not available in Canada.
I suppose you have never taped a tv show or a movie, did you lend it to someone, you know that is against the law!

  19. Wow, how pathetic must your lives be for complaining about something such as this. Leave Jane alone.. She is doing a wonderful job, and something she loves. If you guys dont have anything nice to say dont bother looking at her blog. I am sure you are all people complainging are so unhappy with your lives you have nothing better to do but bother other people.. Get your life together and stop bugging other Jane. And, if you do not have enough courage to post something, not using "anonymous", then dont post at all. You are all cowards who hide behind your computer screens and I pitty you. Poor, Jane. All of you ragging on her truly are pathetic! I'm sure the real reason youre complaining right now is because you lack the talent that Jane possesses in her work. So, to some it up.. YOURE ALL PATHETIC, and that is only to all of you posting RUDE "ANONYMOUS" comments. just PATHETIC...

I am sorry to anyone whom is not posting rude comments, and people who actually do support Janes excellent work!
